Today CGI renders surfaced on the internet of a bizarre looking Motorola prototype that will allegedly run Android. The phone, dubbed the MOTOSPLIT, will feature a wild split QWERTY keyboard design where the keyboard is split in half, and hides behind the phone when not in use.

Tech blog Engadget, who broke the story, didn’t disclose where they got it from, but their source did tell them that the phone is coming out in Q3 of this year, and will be offered through AT&T. This fits in with confirmed reports that AT&T wants to offer 5 Android phones this year and Motorola plans to release 20-30 Android phones this year.
Don’t just write this off as somebody’s crazy Photoshop imagination – Motorola has shown their taste for unique phone designs with the Blackflip, a phone that was leaked last year. The Blackflip features a QWERTY keyboard that instead of sliding behind the screen, flips around to face away from the screen.
The source claimed that the device will be powered by a Snapdragon processor. The Nokia E70 was similar to the MOTOSPLIT renders, as it featured a split QWERTY keyboard.
Both the Motorola Blackflip (which was shown in actual, hands-on pictures) and the MOTOSPLIT (which admittedly is just renders at this point), are alleged to be coming on AT&T. It’s possible that AT&T is looking to make an entry into the Android market with some interesting entries. No confirmation from Motorola that this device is real.
