Samsung Diva S7070, S5150 Phones Go For "Fashionable" Ladies

New Samsung Phones Designed For Women, Featuring Beauty Mode Camera, Fake Call Mode

Samsung is preparing to launch two new phones any minute that are aiming for ‘fashionable ladies’. These phones (which we briefly previewed last November) feature a diamond-inspired styling and will be just the first entry in Samsung’s new Diva line of mobile phones, which we assume will be all similar handsets.

Samsung has included several “features designed with women in mind”, including a “SOS Message” mode, that when activated, will send an alerting text message to a predetermined, local, emergency service. A “Fake Call” mode will let the divas pretend to get a fake call, presumably for getting out of awkward dates.

Other common mobile phone features have been renamed, for example, Samsung is calling the voice note features “Wish Lists” and silent mode is being called “Etiquette Mode”. A bit more on the practical side, the Diva phones will include a new real-time system that will alert you when one of your friends messages you or updates their status on a social networking site.

On the hardware side of the phone, the outer back shell of the phone will be made with real leather. Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t included a 3G connectivity on the phone, maybe to cut down on cost, so the fashionable ladies who use this phone will have to settle for EVDO. Sure, they probably won’t care, but the phones seem to be imitating an iPhone-style smartphone with the big touchscreen, so it’s interesting they wouldn’t include 3G on it.

The phones will sport a 3.2-megapixel camera (down from the 5-megapixel that was originally covered in our first preview), which will be capable of taking H.263 video, and will include a “beauty mode” filter.  The screens on the two devices will be roughly about 2.8-inches, which is a touch smaller than the iPhone, but still comparable. No word on pricing yet, but they’re going to start shipping in Europe sometime this month. Best part about these phones? Samsung has hired Estonian supermodel Carmen Kass to promote them.
