ViewSonic Reveals Android-Powered VTablet 101

ViewSonic VTablet 101 Shown Off At Beijing Press Conference

ViewSonic has revealed a new Android-powered tablet PC at a press conference in Beijing, China.  The ViewSonic VTablet 101 uses the Android mobile OS and a Cortex-A9 processor to provide tablet-style mobile computing at a low price point.

ViewSonic’s VTablet 101 runs on the aforementioned Android mobile OS, not the first tablet to opt for Google’s OS.  Under the hood, the VTablet is powered by a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, an NVIDIA Tegra T20 chipset for graphics and 4GB of built-in storage.  The unit features an 8.9-inch display with a 1024×800 resolution that is capable of 3D graphics.  The Cortex A9 processor and NVIDIA Tegra T20 give the ViewSonic VTablet the same processing punch as an iPhone, but with a tablet-sized touchscreen and an Android heartbeat.

The ViewSonic VTablet 101 is a late entrant in tablet pc news after the tablet-focused buzz of CES 2010.  While Apple has yet to reveal their tablet device, the fact that ViewSonic missed CES is curious, but not consequential.  In terms of functionality, this device doesn’t bring new features that stand out in contrast to other tablets– aside from its price.  The ViewSonic VTablet 101 is suggested to be priced at $441, while shipping dates have not yet been released.
