Alesis has revealed a new audio/video recorder that offers stereo audio recording and hi-quality video. The Alesis VideoTrack Handheld A/V Recorder features paired mics for stereo audio recording and a digital camera capable of video recording and still photographs.

The Alesis brand is known for producing hardware gear for musicians, from synthesizers to speakers, multi-track recorders to mixers. The Alesis VideoTrack is also geared toward musicians, with an apparent focus on high quality, stereo audio recording. Other handheld video recorders, like the Flip and Flip Mino, feature basic monophonic microphones that don’t emphasize audio quality. The Alesis VideoTrack has two high quality condenser microphones behind a protective metal bar that can capture true stereo audio from a variety of sources. Live concerts, presentations, field recording and more are likely the primary uses of this device.
While Alesis made the announcement of the new Alesis VideoTrack on the 14th, spec details are still forthcoming. For now, all that is known about the device is that it records onto standard SD cards, connects to Mac or PC via a USB connection and features digital signal processing for both video and audio. Expect more details on digital audio conversion rate, camera sensor quality and more closer to the unit’s April 2010 ship date. When it arrives, it’ll be priced at $199 at retail.
