Samsung, ATI Team Up For SyncMaster MD230 Super Display
ATI and Samsung have teamed up to show a new multi-display monitor that consists of three or six smaller displays attached together. The SyncMaster MD230 is the massive display you’re looking for, and Samsung has teamed up with ATI for this incredible setup. To use such a setup, you need a graphics card that carries ATI’s Eyefinity tech.

As you can see from the photo (thanks to Engadget for providing them), the SyncMaster MD230 will be a collection of either six or three LCD panels, each with a thin bezel that will be attached together. Each screen will be running at 2560 x 1600, which will give you a grand resolution of twelve times 1080p.
The bezel for each panel is reportedly 50% to 70% thinner than your typical display, so the null space of bezel between each monitor is as small as possible. These monitors, which will be out for sale from Samsung, are almost just a proof-of-concept product for both Samsung and ATI. It shows off Samsung’s engineering team’s abilities with creating heavy multi-display setups with the smallest amount of bezel. Likewise, it shows of ATI’s Eyefinity tech, which is one area where they stand above rival NVIDIA (however, I’d expect NVIDIA to introduce a similar technology once they get their DirectX 11 squared away).
While gaming might be an obvious application, it should be noted that most games don’t even have support for a second monitor, not to mention a sixth. There are programs out there that will “trick” the games into thinking your multiple monitors are one big monitor, and will “stretch” the image across multiple monitors.
These new displays will be offered in a three-display model ($1,899) or an six-display model ($3,099), and will require an ATI card that has Eyefinity6 technology. At that price, don’t expect many gamers to pick this up, it’ll likely be more popular with medical institutes and stock brokers. No word on a release date, but it’ll be sold through Samsung distributors.
