HP Introduces Pavilion dv4i Notebook
HP has added a new notebook to its stable, the Pavilion dv4i is an ‘entertainment PC’ with a focus on watching movies and music. It comes with a ‘hip’ styling and is oriented towards a youth audience. It’ll be a mid-range notebook, not quite as cheap as some of their offerings, but not a high-end performance notebook.

For hardware, it’ll feature a 14.1-inch display, and will come with an Intel Core i5-520M processor (clocked at 2.40Ghz). It will use DDR3 RAM and will be upgradable to 8GB, it’ll come standard with 2GB. For graphics, HP is going with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4550 card. The default storage is a 250GB HDD, which is upgradable to a 500GB unit.
The computer will come with DVD drives, but no Blu-Ray support, which is a bit odd for an entertainment-aimed computer, but supposedly, HP was trying to save on costs. The dv4i will also have 802.11n connectivity, a 3G modem, and users can buy a 3G service contract from Verizon, AT&T or Sprint right from HP’s website.
Buyers can also order the dv4i with an add-on HDTV tuner for DVR functionality, but HP isn’t clear if its an internal or external unit. The notebook will come with a 6-cell lithium-ion battery with an optional monster 12-cell battery. HP has promised “long battery life”, but doesn’t mention how long.
Windows 7 Home Premium will be the default factory OS but HP reminds you that you can order their computers with Windows XP. The starting price fr the HP Pavillion dv4i is $800 and it’s now shipping.
