Hackers Hack Google, Google Hack Hackers Back

Google Hacks Hackers Looking for China-related Attacks

I am not talking about a new movie coming up starring the legendary hero of the well known TV series 24. It’s real life events that we’re dealing with and today we’re talking about Google, hacking and China. The whole story starts way back when Google was attacked by supposedly Chinese hackers.

We told you earlier how Google accused the Chinese government that it has been cyber attacking its corporate infrastructure. More specifically the hackers were looking for the private information of human rights activists that protested against China. Google says that the attacks haven’t really succeeded and it’s prepared to stop its official activities in China as a response. Furthermore the company also enforced security measures for all Gmail accounts, and, more interestingly, has issued a counter hacking attack. Just like in the movies, I tell you!

According to the New York Times Google’s hackers have hit Taiwan-based computers that are suspected to be the source of the initial attacks. Inside they found evidence of the attacks and they discovered that Google wasn’t the only corporation targeted by the Chinese hackers. Other companies like Symantec, Adobe, Juniper Networks, Northrop and Yahoo are also supposed to have been similarly attack and the list goes on. Google discovered proof that up to 33 companies have been the target of the Chinese hackers.

Google apparently worked closely with American Intelligence and law enforcement officials to prove that the attacks have been ordered by the Chinese government but they haven’t found conclusive evidence to support that. Somehow something tells me that the cyber war that we’re witnessing without actually seeing anything happen out on the surface is not about to end here.

From the political point of view neither site is officially willing to comment against the other involved party. One thing is certain though, if you’re willing to hack into Google then you’d better be ready for the counter offensive as the giant corporation won’t sit pretty and wait for you to finish your job.
