ICD Vega Tablet Shown

Tablet maker ICD showed off their fruits of labor from a deal with T-Mobile UK. ICD will release the ICD Vega, a large 15-inch slate-style tablet that will be running Android, and will run on NVIDIA Tegra technology. T-Mobile UK will be offering the phone on contract, tied in with a 3G plan, leading the phone to be subsidized.
Looking at the Vega by its specs, it’s in impressive device. The large 15-inch resistive touchscreen has a resolution of 1366 x 768. It’ll be running version 2.0 of Android, and Tegra will be providing the graphics. For connectivity, it’ll have WiFi, Bluetooth, and, of course, a 3G modem.
The device will have 512MB of RAM and 512MB of flash storage, with ICD intending customers to bring their own storage via a microSD slot (of course, if just browsing the web with a tablet, you don’t need much storage). The Vega will also sport a 1.3-megapixel camera, light sensor and accelerometer, plus a headphone jack.
For docking, the device will have a unique magnetic docking station where it can easily glide into place and begin recharging – no USB connections needed. When it’s all said and done, the Vega will measure about 373 x 254 x 16 mm. ICD expects the battery life to be about 4 hours on a full charge.
On the software side, ICD promises that the version of Android 2.0 running on the device will be ‘heavily modified’, with shared calendars, and SMS messaging support. FM radio, on-demand video and HD video playback will also be supported on the device (although, with a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768, it won’t be ‘true’ HD).
At CES last week, ICD announced their partner ship with T-Mobile UK who will bring the device to the British Isles. No word on pricing plans or a release date. Before the T-Mobile announcement, ICD had planned to launch the device before July 2010.
