Samsung Unveils New 32GB microSD Card & 64GB moviNAND Flash Memory [Samsung Announces 30nm-class, New Memory Solutions for Mobile Devices]
Samsung announced new storage solutions for our mobile needs. As smartphone and personal devices become more and more popular we will require more and more storage space in order to be able to carry with us all the apps we want to download, all our favorite music and videos and all the work-related documents we have to go through each day.
Samsung’s latest products in this domain are the 64GB moviNAND memory flash and the 32GB microSD memory card and we expect to see them in stores soon.
Dong-Soo Jun, executive vice president, memory marketing, Samsung Electronics had this to say about the new storage solutions:
Samsung’s high-density memory solutions bring the storage capacity levels of computing systems to small, mobile devices. The 64GB embedded memory, moviNAND, and the 32GB microSD card each greatly expand the data storage density of mobile devices, meeting customers’ memory requirements and ushering in a new era of mobile and IT device capacity growth.
These two new products are based on Samsung’s 32 gigabit NAND flash. The 64GB moviNAND is made of 16 30nm-class 32 gigabit MLC NAND chips and a controller. Currently Samsung has various moviNAND storage solutions from 4GB all the way up to the new 64GB model.
The 32GB microSD card is developed by using the same technology. The new microSD card stacks 8 32gigabit NAND components. The card is 1mm thick and 0.7mm in height not that we expect it to be any bigger.
We will probably see both of these new flash memory solutions become available later this year. The 64GB moviNAND entered mass production last month while the new 32GB microSD card will be produced in February. Unfortunately no pricing details have been revealed yet but we’ll keep you in the loop on this one. After all, the new storage solutions from Samsung might equip some of the hottest smartphones that are about to walk Earth this year.
