Toshiba Qosmio X505 Notebook Revealed [Toshiba Refreshes Consumer Notebook, Wild Appearance, Core i5, 18-inch display]

If you want a note book that will turn heads, then the Toshiba Qosmio X505 is for you. The giant 18-inch notebook computer features a wild looking black and orange styling that is sure to draw attention, if you ever would ever dare to take it outside. While the wild Qosmio chassis was previous released, Toshiba gave the model a spec refresh last week at CES.

The main upgrade in the product refresh is the inclusion of Core processors. The X505 will now come standard with an Intel Core i5-430M processor, which will be upgradable to a Core i7-720QM. The 720QM is about the most powerful Intel processor that we’ve seen lately being added to notebooks.

For graphics, the new X505 will come standard with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTS 360M internally. NVIDIA recently detailed information on the new GeForce 300 series, and the GTS 360M will be their most powerful mobile offering when the line launches. For the uninitiated, the GeForce 300 series will be fully capable of DirectX11 – ergo, the X505 will be DirectX11 ready.

Other standard luxuries include a 320GB hard drive with a 64GB solid-state drive. Most people have been installing the operating system to the SSD for quick operation – it’ll be interesting to see where Toshiba will install the OS (we’re assuming it’ll come with some flavor of Windows 7) from the factory.

The X505 will also come with a Blu-Ray drive and HDMI-out. The 18.4-inch display will be a true HD widescreen 16:9 display. The speakers for the notebook are being provided by speaker gods Harman/Kardon. Pricing will start at $1,200 – no word on a release date but the GeForce 300 cards are set for a release in March 2010, so expect the notebook to be ready before/after that.
