Ten One Design have announced Inklet, an app that turns the trackpad on your MacBook into a genuine tablet input device. Inklet will give your MacBook’s trackpad a range of stylus capabilities for a fraction of the cost of a pricier hardware stylus tablets.
The philosophy behind Inklet is that the new range of MacBooks provide the hardware needed for typical stylus input. Where graphic designers and illustrators relied on hardware systems in the past, they can install the Inklet Trackpad App and use a stylus to draw, illustrate and write directly onto the MacBook trackpad. Inklet will then allow the user to interface with Photoshop, Illustrator and other graphic design software with a canvas controlled by Inklet. Designers can then insert pen and brush strokes, whether the input is text or graphical.
Inklet will only work with recent MacBooks, specifically those with multi-touch trackpads and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard installed. The Inklet Trackpad Tablet app can be purchased and downloaded for $25. A comparable size hardware stylus tablet will generally start between $70 and $100 for basic versions.
