Samsung E6 & E101 e-Book Readers Introduced at CES 2010

Samsung to Debut Stylus-enabled eBook Readers with Handwriting Capabilities

I said it before and I’ll say it again, 2010 is the year of 3D, the year of the tablet and the year of the eReader. Proving my point, today, during a press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Samsung, a global leader in display technology, have just announced the company’s first e-book readers — a 10-inch E101 and a 6-inch E6 e-readers.

Although there’s not much info concerning the new readers, what we know for sure is that they have a sliding form factor, both feature a touchscreen display that allows handwriting directly onto the display thanks to a built-in electromagnetic resonance (EMR) stylus pen, boast a soft QWERTY keyboard, Wireless 802.11b/g and Bluetooth connectivity. And if you were wondering, we heard that Google will be the content partner which means that you’ll get access to loads of Google books.

“We’ve used our expertise to create a high-quality e-book with today’s on-the-go consumer in mind,” said Young Bae, director of display marketing, Samsung Information Technology Division. “Samsung is addressing a common frustration that users experience with many of today’s digital readers with a stylus that allows them to annotate their favorite works or take notes. Coupled with wireless functionality that enables sharing of content, this is a truly multi-faceted device.”

Both the new Samsung E6 and the E101 eBook Readers are expected to hit the shelves early this year for $399 and $699, respectively.
