Marvell Plug Computer 3.0 Unveiled

Extremely Small Form Computer, Armada 300 Processor, WiFi, Bluetooth

Marvell-SheevaPlug-PC

The Marvell SheevaPlug is their third attempt at a ‘plug computer’. The first two iterations were aimed towards business markets, as a cheap file server machine or a simple computer that would run industrial software. With the new SheevaPlug 3.0, Marvell is targeting home users for a home media PC as well.

The first big upgrade to the Marvell SheevaPlug 3.0 is its new processor. No, it won’t be able to run Crysis but it does feature a new Armada 300 processor clocked at 2GHz. The SheevaPlug will also have its own hard drive (size unknown at press time), and where previous versions of the plug computer had only wired Ethernet ports, the SheevaPlug 3.0 is now capable of WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The SheevaPlug 3.0 has a few USB ports and ideally could be used with a printer or some NAS, and Marvell’s press release specifically mentions multimedia sharing in the home. Pricing is unannounced for the new SheevaPlug 3.0, but previous generations were around $99.
