Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid Notebook-Tablet Combo Official

Right after teasing with their Skylight smart-book, the folks from Lenovo have announced (a bit ahead of CES) that a new Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid notebook-tablet device is in the works. Hitting the masses in the near future, the IdeaPad U1 Hybrid is a revolutionary clamshell laptop that splits in two, with the undocked slate tablet powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon ARM CPU and working on the Skylight Linux interface for extreme mobility, while the docked version runs Windows 7 and is powered by a powerful Intel Core 2 Duo U4100 processor.
The new Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid weighs in at 3.8 lbs when in notebook form, and only 1.6 lbs when you use it as a tablet. It comes with a detachable 11.6-inch LED-lit display that rotates into landscape and portrait mode, and supports two-fingered multi-touch no matter if you’re on Windows 7 or the Skylight environment.

What’s interesting though, is that the new IdeaPad U1 has two different hardware specifications, specifically built for each environment. That’s how the slate has a 16GB flash drive for storage, 0.5GB of RAM (DDR1) and Snapdragon integrated graphics, while the laptop has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, an 128 GB SSD for storage and Intel GMA graphics. They both bring 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and share the battery — good for 8 hours on the slate and 6 hours when docked.
