Apple’s Tablet to be Called the iSlate?

It’s still too early to know the real name of Apple’s tablet but rumors say it’s going to be known as the iSlate. This is not the first time we hear that name so it might just prove to be the right one.
According to records found by MacRumors it seems that iSlate.com is a domain name that has been registered by Apple since 2007. The domain has been registered through MarkMonitor, a company that helps companies like Google, Yahoo and Apple handle domains for their products.
The ownership was displayed for a few weeks in late 2007 just before being changed back to MarkMonitor. iSlate.com is not a functional website so far. And we might never see a site dedicated to the tablet. Maybe Apple is just making sure that nobody else can use that domain name.
The iSlate, or whatever its name is, is expected to arrive next month. A special media event scheduled for Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco is supposed to be dedicated to the tablet. Apple has rented the stage for several days but the company is not willing to comment officially about the event.
The tablet is definitely the most awaited gadget of the new year. There are plenty of tablets out there already but everyone wants to see what Apple’s version of a tablet looks like. The tablet is supposed to be a multimedia oriented device ready to let you enjoy content from various sources. Rumored to come in 7- and 10-inch versions the tablet was expected in fall 2009 and now analysts say that it will be available in stores at some point in March 2010.
The special event supposed to take place at the end of January might bring Steve Jobs back to the stage. The tablet is said to be developed under his close supervision so we wouldn’t be surprised to see him present the device next month.
