Intel Declares Next Generation Of Atom Processors

Early Monday, Intel released a press release detailing their next generation of Atom processors, aimed at the netbook light market. The new Intel Atom chips will have the integrated graphics and memory bus on the same die as the processor.
Intel’s three new chips, the Pine Trail Atom N450, D410 and D510, are completely new processors, and will be combined with the Intel NM10 Express chipset. The new chips will have the same clock speed (1.66GHz) and roughly the same performance as the current chips they’re replacing, but each will have 20% power consumption than it’s current model. That, plus, the integrated graphics and memory controller will be built directly into the CPU die.
Don’t expect to swap these chips into your Alienware elite gaming rig – these are strictly for the netbook and nettop market. The Intel Atom has already been the processor of choice for netbooks – and with their press release today, Intel said that they have already secured over 80 deals to have the new Pine Trail Atom chips placed in netbooks. These include most, if not all of the major netbook players, like ASUS, Acer, Lenovo, Dell, MSI, Toshiba and Samsung. Dell won’t sell you these chips directly – but expect netbooks packing these new Pine Trail Atom chips to be coming sometime next month.
