HTC Hero & Samsung Moment Getting Andriod 2.0 Update

In a short Twitter message posted by the company yesterday, Sprint have officially announced that their HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment smartphones are being upgraded (from Android 1.5) to run Android 2.0 Eclair. Although the release date is yet to be determined, the US carriers is hinting that as late as June, their customers will get access to the whole set of new functionalities coming with the update.
The sad part is that the news comes just as Verizon pushes out the Android 2.0.1 upgrade for their Motorola Droid (the first phone to run the software) and by the looks of it, Sprint is going to be some eight months late in offering such a smartphone to their customers.
On top of that, Sprint is supposedly worried about a potential fragmentation issues that experts have discovered to be causing problems with the Android platform. The reason stands behind the fact that applications built for Android 1.5 or 1.6 may not be compatible with Android 2.0 Eclair, which would put developers off from coming up with new applications.
Nonetheless, the fact that Sprint’s HTC Hero and the new Samsung Moment will be running Android 2.0 is good news.
