Those of you packing a HTC Droid Eris from Verizon should see the new HTC Droid Eris firmware update steadily rolling out now following its initial release at midnight that’ll see your ROM updated to 1.16.605.1 (radio version is 2.32.40.11.09) though, rather than becoming available to everyone initially, the HTC Droid Eris is gradually being made available to an increasing number of users over the next few days (so if it isn’t available to you now, you’ll need to keep checking back).
So what exactly does this firmware update bring to the table? Here’s the low-down as to what you can expect to see in terms of improvements and enhancements following the upgrade:
- While on a call and the device is in screensaver mode, pressing the End key now takes the device out of screensaver mode, and a second press will end the call.
- On-call mute and speakerphone icon functionality is enhanced.
- Upgraded functionality after activation eliminates the delay users were experiencing in receiving their first call.
- Device now switches effectively from 1x mode to 3G.
- Device no longer requires users to reselect a default email after power-cycling.
- SMS and MMS messaging delivery is improved.
- Eighty-character MMS/SMS message subject lines are now allowed.
- Improved picture messaging functionality allows messages from LG phones to be opened.
If you’ve gained the update we’d love to hear your thoughts. Has it addressed everything you hoped it would? Do let us know.
