Modern Warfare 2 Censored in Japan, Too ["No Russia" Scene in Modern Warfare 2 Censored, Takes Fun Away]

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

With well over $3 billion in sales so far and with millions of users playing on Steam servers everyday, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 seems to do very well with securing the ‘best video game ever’ title although it got some bad press as of late because of its highly aggressive stance. Speaking of stirring the controversy, you may already know that the game has been censored in Russia last month, what you didn’t know is that the game has been censored in Japan, too.

The culprit is the same scene of brutality at the Moscow Airport where you’re commissioned to gun down unarmed civilians. Apparently the game, which Square Enix publishes tomorrow, brings a different “No Russian” level where you’re actually supposed to protect the Russians. Yes, way! Instead of saying “Kill ‘em, the Russians” your partners will tell you “Remember, no Russian”. Fail to do that and it’s game over!

Pretty interesting how just one scene from a video game has managed to get so much media attention. So we wonder, did they do it on purpose to get even more users to play Modern Warfare 2? Could be, isn’t it?
