2010 FIFA World Cup Coming in 3D Where Available [Sony to Broadcast 3D Live Matches from the FIFA World Cup]

Football/Soccer lovers will have one more reason to look forward to the next FIFA World Cup. Hosted in South Africa, the World Cup is going to be broadcast in 3D where available. What do you say? Is that enough to convince you to get a 3D-enabled TV next year?
FIFA has reached an agreement with Sony in order to broadcast all the hot action on the field using “the next-generation 3D.” Sony is FIFA’s official partner that will deliver 3D images from 25 games of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Sure you’d want to see all the games of your favorite team in 3D but we’re still exploring 3D technology. Maybe by 2014 we’re going to have all the major competitions, including the next World Cup, available in 3D.
I for one am not that thrilled about the prospect. Sure watching 3D games certainly beats the regular viewing experience but I’m really not a fan of those 3D glasses.
Naturally the technology will evolve and we’re not going to need 3D glasses in the future. In the mean time, the next football World Cup will be available for 3D viewing on Sony’s 3D products. At this point we have no idea if any game will be transmitted live as FIFA is still working on “whether a live right will be offered in the coming months.”
Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman, CEO and President of Sony Corporation had this to say about the next World Cup:
The transition to 3D is underway, and, we, at Sony, intend to be leaders in every aspect. Our sponsorship of the FIFA World Cup allows us to leverage our cutting-edge 3D technology and premier products with dazzling content to produce a unique and totally compelling viewing experience. 3D viewers around the world will feel as though they are inside the stadiums in South Africa, watching the games in person.
What about you? Did your team qualify for the South African tournament?
