The newly released Juan Xavier Larrea 360 Live iPhone App may not be the first Xbox Live iPhone App but there’s no doubt that it could well prove to be any Xbox users iPhone app of choice what with the feature set on offer – but, interestingly, this new Xbox Live iPhone App isn’t free and, therein, lays the rub.
According to Microsoft’s recent take on matters, any application that serves to pull Xbox Live info must be offered up for free and the newly released Juan Xavier Larrea 360 Live iPhone App isn’t free, it’s $1.99 (£1.19) so its going to be pretty interesting to see what happens here. Will MS jump in? If they do, and this remains to be seen, then our advice to you is to hold back on purchasing this particular app for now as the developer, at that juncture, will have to make a stark choice – either pull the app, or offer it up for free.

Time will tell what happens here, of course, but we’d be surprised if MS let this go as it would open the flood gates in terms of developers leveraging MS’s Xbox Live service by developing applications specifically to make a profit.
As far as what the Juan Xavier Larrea 360 Live iPhone App, known merely as Xbox Live, offers by way of functionality there is little doubt that it’s the most accomplished Xbox Live application to be offered as an iPhone app to date in that it boasts the capability to allow users to manage their gamertags, access friends lists, message via Live, browse their game libraries, view achievements and, yes, there’s cover flow type functionality thrown in for good measure. But, as brilliantly realised as this app is, we still await MS’s reaction.
In terms of user feedback, in must be said, reports are glowing, however, so, having ventured that it may be worth holding back, you may actually decided that its worth splashing out on lest MS intervenes and the developer, given a choice of offering it for free or pulling it (assuming it does indeed come to that) opts for the latter option.
Your call.
