iPhone Video Calls Available from fring [fring Brings Video Calls Support to iPhone and iPod touch]

fring VoIP video calls iPhone

If Apple is not willing to bring video calls to the iPhone yet then you’re going to find your fix from someone else. This time it’s time for fring to deliver. The VoIP application for mobile phones is offering you the “first ever Internet video calls” on the iPhone or iPod touch.

Sure the iPhone lacks a secondary front-facing camera destined to help you take advantage of video calls properly but that doesn’t mean fring won’t support one-way video calls.

fring has announced today the new features and iPhone and iPod touch will be able to make as many Internet video calls once they get the application. The updated app comes just in time for the holidays. With Christmas and New Year approaching fast, one could not ignore fring as a communication solution. All you need is a dependable Internet connection and you’ll be talking to your friends and family in no time.

The video feature is part of the fring app which lets you call other fring, Skype or GTalk users over an existing Internet connection. fring comes with support for chat and phone calls to regular phone lines are also available through Skype-Out and other SIP services. Support for Instant Messenger services like MSN, AIM, GTalk and Skype is also included for those hardcore texters.

Here’s what Avi Shechter, co-founder and CEO of fring had to say about the new features of the app:

We were the first to bring mobile voice over internet (VoIP) to mobile devices, the first to bring iPhone/iPod touch users the choice to make free Internet calls, the first to enable cost-saving mobile twitter over internet, and now we’re proud to continue leading the field of rich mobile-internet communication by bringing users the world’s first fring video calls over internet for the iPhone and iPod touch.

The new fring app is available to iPhone and iPod touch owners with iPhone OS 3.0 or later installed on their device. Only incoming video-streams are available but I have already explained why that happens above. In case you have other smartphones then you’ll be able to enjoy regular, 2-way video streaming from fring, so go get the application already!
