“25 Days of Free” Event Delivers Free Amazon Music Downloads

Free Holiday Downloads Available from Amazon MP3 Music Store

Amazon-Christmas

Amazon has announced today that it will continue a tradition started last year. The “25 Days of Free” will bring you free downloads from the Amazon MP3 music store from December 1 all the way through Christmas. Unfortunately it’s not all good news as Amazon is not about to walk away from tons of cash and offer its customers unlimited free music downloads.

A special holiday-themed song will be available as a free download from the store every day until Christmas. The song, “hand-picked by Amazon MP3 editors” will be unveiled each day and the songs will be available for free.

The free MP3s will come from a bunch of artists, some modern and some “unique holiday-themed originals.” Here are some of the tracks you can expect to download for free in the following days:

  • Tori Amos’ “Snow Angel,” from new album “Midwinter Graces”
  • Lady Gaga’s “Christmas Tree,” from new album “Peach on Earth”
  • Casting Crowns’ “Joy to the World.”

Pete Baltaxe, director of Amazon MP3, had this to say about the “25 Days of Free” event:

Our customers love that we offer free songs all year since it’s an easy way for them to experiment with artists they are unfamiliar with. 25 Days of Free is a fun way to discover new holiday music to keep our customers in the spirit at home or on the go.

Amazon’s initiative is surely laudable. Why not get 25 free songs this Christmas? But Amazon is probably also looking forward to sign up new customers for its music service. Currently there are about 10 million songs available with prices around $.99 per song and $7.99 per album. The songs are DRM-free which means you can get them to work on any machine, MP3 player or phone. Speaking of phones, the Amazon MP3 mobile application comes already preloaded on various phones including the Palm Pre, T-Mobile MyTouch 3G, Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Eris, T-Mobile G1, Palm Pixi, Samsung Moment, HTC Hero, Motorola Cliq, and Samsung Behold II.

So what do you say? Interested in the “25 Days of Free” promotion or do you happen to shop elsewhere for your music?
