Amazon Reports Record Kindle Sales for November

Official Kindle Sales Numbers Not Available Yet

Amazon has issued a brief press release today in which it claims that its eBook reader, the famous Kindle, has broken record sales in November. According to Amazon, the Kindle is the “hottest gift this holiday season across all Amazon product categories – not just electronics.”

That’s something truly remarkable as it seems that more and more people are interested in getting an eBook reader these days. Unfortunately for us, Amazon hasn’t released any numbers yet. We’d be curious to see how many Kindles have been sold and how much money Amazon has made off its Kindle in November.

Here’s what Ian Freed, vice president of Amazon Kindle had to say about the eBook reader:

Kindle is a great gift for anyone who loves to read and it’s flying off the shelves faster than any other product Amazon sells. We’re seeing lots of people buying from one to a handful of Kindles as gifts for friends or family, as well as many businesses and other organizations buying Kindles in large quantities for their employees or customers.

Should we assume that the Kindle’s price cut down to $259 is responsible for the record sales? Is this a strategy meant to convince even more people to buy the Kindle?

While we’re waiting for actual numbers to back the record sales claim, we can’t but notice that the competition is doing good to. In fact, it looks like Barnes & Nobles’ nook has been sold out too and those of you that haven’t pre-ordered it are in for a longer wait. According to some sources the nook will not be available until January so if you really want an eBook reader then you should be going for a Kindle too.

The nook seems to be the main competitor of the Kindle right now although there are other readers to consider out there. In case you’re not very keen about the nook or the Kindle then you could go for an eBook reader from Sony. And let’s not forget that other companies are also working on a few readers that are going to be launched next year.
