Acer to Launch Up to 10 Smartphones in 2010

Android OS to See More Love from Acer than Windows Mobile

It’s always nice to hear more details about the future plans of various manufacturers in the mobile business. Cell phones are a big part of our life so why not check out their future from time to time? Today we’re taking a brief look at Acer’s future when it comes to smartphones.

The computer manufacturer has just entered the cell phone business and it has launched 10 smartphones this year alone. Although none of them have been able to fight against the iPhone yet they are all pretty decent gadgets. Even the ones running Windows Mobile! So what will Acer do next year?

It seems that the company has big plans for 2010. Acer will launch from 8 to 10 smarpthones next year which sounds pretty solid. And if in 2009 Acer only had one Android smartphone in stores it looks like next year the company will focus more on Google’s mobile platform.

Acer will still rely on Windows Mobile phones but we can expect more Android handsets than in 2009. Other mobile operating systems will not be used but Android and Windows Mobile should suffice. Let’s not forget that Android is becoming more and more popular and Microsoft will launch Windows Mobile 7 at some point in the first half of 2010. Acer shouldn’t need any other mobile OS anytime soon.

What Acer has to come up with is the hardware part. We want our future smartphones to be better than the iPhone and if that’s not possible yet, although it should be, we want them to be better than the Motorola Droid or the HTC HD2. Acer has plenty of experience in building all sorts of computers but that doesn’t mean their task is that easy. They should come up with a few smartphones capable of surpassing the models offered by the competition without raising the price too much.

So what do you think folks? Will Acer be able to combine ingenuity and affordability in its future smartphones? We’ll be back with more details about the 2010 lineup once we have actual models to talk about.
