msi wind u230

We took a sneak peak at this computer before but today we have all the hot details for you. I am talking about the MSI Wind U230, a 12.1-inch notebook that decided to go officially official today. Although it looks like a netbook, the features inside will make you think otherwise about it.

According to MSI the new beast will feature “AMD’s 2nd Generation Ultrathin Platform, a dual-core processor and Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 7.” All that certainly sounds impressive and this computer is surely going to surpass other similar machines when it comes to performance.

Let’s take a closer look at the features of this notebook then:

  • AMD Congo CPU MV40 / L335 Processor
  • AMD RS780MN + SB710 Chipsets
  • Up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM memory
  • 12.1-inch LED-backlit LCD display
  • 1,366 x 768 resolution; HD ready display
  • ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics card
  • Up to 320GB SATA hard drive
  • 1.3-megapixel webcam
  • 4-in-1 card reader
  • 802.11b/g/n WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR
  • Ethernet, HDMI and 3 USB 2.0 ports
  • 87-key keyboard
  • 3-/6-cell battery
  • Weight 1.3kg with 3-cell battery
  • Windows 7 Home Premium

As you can see the U230 weighs only 1.3Kg but it still is capable of delivering an amazing performance for a computer of this size. Thanks to that Ultrathin Platform mentioned above the U230 can deliver twice the performance offered by regular lightweight notebooks. Display performance has been improved up to three times compared to the previous model and the U230 consumes 60% less power than standard notebooks. The battery is also said to offer twice the “battery endurance” of other 12-inch notebooks.

The Wind U230 comes with an ECO Engine technology that lets users manage the power according to their needs. There are five modes available: Gaming, Movie, Presentation, Document and Turbo Battery which should help you get the most of that battery. Power-saving mode testing has shown that the battery can last for up to 4 hours which isn’t too bad for a notebook of that size.

All we need now are some decent prices and arrival dates. The official press release fails to provide them which means we still have to wait. And once the Wind U230 becomes available in stores we’ll be waiting for your feedback. Will this ultraportable laptop deliver exactly the performance MSI expects it to?
