iPhone Apps Still Live After Rejection

Ok, so what’s the deal here? You’ve spotted an iPhone app that you desperately crave but there’s a problem. Apple and its firing squad have decided to sack the application for whatever reason. So what do you do in this case? Well “There’s a site for that!” I don’t particularly enjoy the fact that the phrase is catching on but let’s move on to the website in question.
AppRejection.com is the website that’s going to track and catalog all the apps that have been ruthlessly rejected, banned, killed, terminated (get my drift here?) by Apple. Now don’t get all too excited! The site is new and we won’t judge it just yet. Instead we’re going to let it grow some more to see if it has any potential.
iPhone developer Adam Martin, the creator of the website, had this to say about it:
“There are now more than 100,000 iPhone applications available on the App Store. However, Apple has a secret, undocumented, unquestionable, random process for deciding which applications to allow onto the deck.”
One of the most famous rejected apps was Google’ Google Voice application. You must remember the whole scandal, don’t you? The FCC got involved and asked for answers from all the parties involved. Both Apple and AT&T were suspected for rejecting the app but both denied having anything to do with the matter. From Google’s point of view the app should have been included in the App Store, but that didn’t help much.
Besides Google Voice, other apps have been rejected from the App Store and Martin is determined to find them and tell their story. He is going through backlogs of past Apple rejections in order to feature every documented case. I guess that it will take a while especially since Apple will most likely reject more apps per day than Martin can cover.
What about you? Is there an app you wish to see in the App Store that happens to be banned? On the other hand there are over 100,000 apps available for download. Can’t you find an alternative to the rejected app?
