The EeeBox is Asus’s long running and popular series of low power ‘nettops’, but you already know that. What you may not know is that today, the latest model in the series, the Asus EeeBox EB1501 has started shipping in the UK. Of course there have been conflicting reports regarding the EeeBox EB1501 availability, but the company stepped in today to announce that it’s indeed true!
So what is so special about the new ASUS Eee Box EB1501? Well, it’s the first one of its kind to feature the nVidia Ion platform as well as an optical drive. It runs on Intel’s dual-core Atom 330 1.6 GHz processor along with an 1080p capable nVidia Ion graphics chipset. More to it, the slot loading DVD burner makes it attractive as a very compact HTPC.
The nettop has 2GB of RAM and packs a 250GB hard-drive along with multiple USB 2.0 ports and eSATA support. Internet connectivity comes courtesy of the onboard WiFi b/g/n, and thanks to its external antenna (and support for the new 802.11n standard) it allows for easy HD video streaming across the network, to and from the device.
The Asus EeeBox EB1501 is available in both white and black colors at £339 (some $560 at today’s rate).
