World's First Curved Display On Sale

“Feel The Power of Curved”, Ostendo’s website tells you when you first pop in, and yes, its hard not to look in awe at the 43″ curved display, which Ostendo claims is the world’s first display to be of such a design. But at a steep price tag of over $6,000 USD, most of you probably won’t be ordering one this holiday season.
The Ostendo CRVD curved display has an asounting 32:10 aspect ratio, however, that comes at a price of sort of a bizarre screen resolution of 2880-by-900.
Ostendo’s website claims that their display can replace mutli-screen setups, but unless you’re running three monitors at 800-by-600, it seems like you’d be giving up some screen real estate.
Ostendo makes several claims, one of them saying that the CRVD makes use of the ‘Human Visual System’ and your natural peripheral vision. This could make for some amazing gaming applications, as first-person games have always lacked the peripheral vision we have in real life (2K Games experimented with first-person sports games that were generally unpopular because of the lack of peripheral vision).
Ostendo also says that because your eye focial point is even across the entire screen, its easier on eye fatigue. Another one of their claims is that the CRVD will work with all current graphics cards and PC games. This one might be a bit of a tall tale on their part, as it seems that some games (BioShock comes to mind) have bugs are certain (usually HD and widescreen) resolutions. If a game has trouble with 2560 x 1600, I don’t see how it could handle the insane 2880-by-900 with the monster 32:10 aspect ratio.
Despite the (possible) flaws with this bad boy and the outrageous early adapter’s price, this monitor would be awesome for a game of Flight Simulator X or Mass Effect.
Edit: According to internet reports, this is apparently the same 43″ curved monitor that was going to be sold with the NEC name in July (originally reported by us here) but manufacturer Ostendo is attempting to sell the monster by themselves.
Edit 2: I orginally reported the CRVD as a LCD display until Erhan from Ostendo sent in a correction: “IT is actually a projection display using LEDs for the light source. You can find more information on our website – ostendo.com”. Thanks for the heads up, Erhan.

Just to make sure that it is accurate, CRVD is not an LCD based display. IT is actually a projection display using LEDs for the light source. You can find more information on our website – ostendo.com
