Black Wii Flies Off The Shelves in Europe

Nintendo has never had any trouble moving units of the popular Nintendo Wii console, but this holiday season, a limited edition black Wii is selling so well, Nintendo can’t keep up with demand. The Black Wii is going for £180 in the UK and includes Wii Sports Resort.
In October, Nintendo announced that for a limited time in the UK and Ireland, the Wii would be shedding its pale white color for the color black, and along with a lot of common Wii accessories. The Black Wii was originally produced for Japan as a tie-in with a Monster Hunter game.
And despite only being on sale for three days, Nintendo is reporting that the Black Wiis are flying off the store shelves. Reportedly featuring a 60% sales boost, although Nintendo isn’t just blaming this on the Black Wii.
Nintendo exec Rob Lowe told blog Joystiq that part of this was “a natural peak season uplift on all hardware”. Despite that, British Nintendo website Nindie.com is having trouble keeping the black hardware in stock.
Although, Lowe later on went on to tell Joystiq that this was a limited edition Wii, and would only be on sale in 2009. Nintendo has stated no plans to sell the black Wii in North America, sticking us Yanks with the boring white Wiis. Hey, if we got a black one, we might actually turn it on when nobody else is over, Nintendo!
