Motorola Droid Camera Fix Release Confirmed [Droid Autofocus Fix Pending, Assumed to Hit Next Month as an Over-the-Air Update]

If you’ve been experiencing autofocus issues with your Motorola Droid the good news that Motorola have now confirmed that that they are to offer an over-the-air update that will serve to fix the Droid’s autofocus issues which is expected to become available soon (various reports hint at next month, but there’s no official word from Motorola at this juncture concerning the actual date of availability).

Motorola spokesperson Juli Burda told Phone Scoop (credited below) “With Droid, and with the rest of our growing portfolio of Android-based devices, we will continue to evolve and improve the overall consumer experience with periodic software updates. The feedback we’ve been hearing on the Droid camera is one of those items that will be addressed permanently with an upcoming OTA software update. The advanced technology of the Droid means customers will only have to accept the download to their phones for continued use and enjoyment of this feature packed Android phone.”

It was thought that the autofocus fix had already been releases and that Droids have been updated without user knowledge via a somewhat sneaky update but it now transpires that this is not the case. In fact it now transpires that the autofocus issues are the result of a date related bug which leads to periods where the autofocus works flawlessly, and periods where it struggles to play ball (this cycle reportedly being 24.5 days in length). This being the case, you should find that your Droid will not display autofocus issues now prior to the fix being made available (if it is indeed released on 11 December).
