With the International Broadcast Exhibition going on in Japan as you read, all top brand companies have attended to show off their stuff. Among those who couldn’t miss the opportunity to reiterate their wish for dominate the 3D world, the folks from Sony showed off a HUGE 280″ 3D display that got the attention as it’s 21 feet wide and 11 feet tall, can play both 2D and 3D video and is made up of 70 individual 28 inch LED displays.
The 3D displays work using polarization technology which requires you to use special 3D polarizing glasses to help view the spatial dimension. It works by having the image for each eye shown using different polarizations. So each eye in the 3D glass will have a different polarizing filter which allows light corresponding only to that side to reach the eye, resulting in a 3D effect.
3D is expected to be the next big thing in the entertainment electronics industry, with 3D TVs and Blu-ray players expected to become household items in Japan, probably next year. Its still not known when actual 3D TV broadcasts will begin, what’s certain is that Sony is working on getting their 3D tech out, even for their PS3 console.
Also on display at the IBE in Japan, was a Sony HDC-P1 multi-purpose camera which can be used for taking 3D images along with a setup that allowed you to combine two HDC-P1s to shoot 3D videos.
The future loks bright!
