Lexar has announced today new storage solution for your gaming consoles. These are the Memory Stick Micro M2 and the Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory cards.

The new memory cars will come in two versions, 4GB and 8GB and they will be available for Nintendo Wii, DSi, Sony PSP and PS3 gaming consoles.

Do we really need new memory cards? Well they can be very useful when it comes to storing gaming data and multimedia content on your favorite gaming console. Apparently Lexar thinks that “cheat codes, checkpoints, custom settings, high scores, bonus materials and player profiles” require some new storage solutions. The new cards are also supposed to store and handle games and downloaded multimedia content although they do seem rahter unnecessary to me.

Here’s what Manisha Sharma, director of worldwide memory card product marketing of Lexar Media had to say about the new cards:

Gamers live by their saved gaming data, and everyone from casual to hard-core gamers rely on that information to be available every time they power up their consoles. Since most gamers play more than one title at a time and use their consoles for Web browsing and photo, video, and music storage, they need memory products that can hold lots of content. The Lexar Gaming M2 and SDHC cards give even the most passionate gamers a way to reliably store their video game information, and help enhance the overall playing experience.

The Lexar Gaming M2 card is compatible with the PSP Go while the Lexar Gaming Memory Stick PRO Duo is what your Sony PSP and PlayStation 3 will need. On the other hand the Lexar Gaming SDHC card has been conceived for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DSi owners. The M2 card is available in 4GB and 8GB flavors which cost $38 and $70, respectively. The SDHC cards are available in 4GB and 8GB versions priced at $25 and $45, respectively.

So what do you say? Does your gaming console need a new memory card solution from Lexar?
