ViewSonic VOT550 PC Mini Now Available

ViewSonic are now rolling out their new VOT550 PC Mini which takes the form of an ultra compact PC which, thanks to its integrated Blu-ray drive and inbuilt Ethernet and WiFi connectivity would serve happily as a digital home entertainment hub – though the apparent lack of HDMI output is a somewhat curious omission.

The ViewSonic VOT550 PC Mini, which measures in at just 6.5″ x 1.97″ x 6.5″, is powered by a 2.2GHz Dual Core Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 CPU, runs Windows 7 and, by way of key features, packs in a 500GB SATA hard drive, 4GB DDR2 SDRAM, and the aforementioned Ethernet and WiFi (specifically 802.11b/g/n) wireless connectivity – meaning, if you take the latter option, you can run this in your front room to hook up with your home network with the minimum of hassle (and no unsightly trailing cabling). There’s also 6 separate USB 2.0 ports in evidence, incidentally, though we would have preferred to see one less USB port allowing for a HDMI port allowing the VOT550 PC Mini to be hooked up to a HCTV (we still cannot quite understand why there’s no HDMI).
The ViewSonic VOT550 PC Mini, which should be becoming available as of right about now, will set you back just shy of $950 though, of course, there are cheaper options out there, it has to be said (especially if Blu-ray is not a big deal for you – such as those of you with PS3 consoles, for example).
