ASUS G51J 3D Notebook Becomes Official [ASUS G51J 3D to Support NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision]

ASUS G51J 3D Notebook 2

ASUS just announced a new notebook that supports NVIDIA’s GeForce 3D Visionand generates 3D imagery. Dubbed ASUS G51J 3D, it packs a GeForce GTX 260M graphics card with 1GB of video RAM, renders everything on a 15.6-inch 120Hz LCD screen that boasts 1366×768 pixel resolutions, and includes NVIDIA’s special 3D glasses.

Meant for home users, the NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision is the company’s stereoscope 3D desktop solution that requires a different display than what you may own, and works with a pair of special glasses and an USB-based IR transmitter to enable spatial depth in 3D games (such as Batman : Arkham Asylum and Borderlands)

No concrete specs or pricing have been revealed about the new ASUS G51J, yet, but word is that it’s going to run on a 1.6GHz Core i7 processor, should bring up to 4GB of RAM, has up to 500GB of storage space and optional BluRay or a DVD drive.

The 3D functionality is implemented using Active Shutter glasses technology. How does it work? Well it basically consists of a pair of LCDs which switch between black or transparent, but really fast. The glasses switch between the left and right eye really fast in tandem with the images that show on the display. When the image for the left eye is shown, only the left side LCD will be open. The next frame will be for the right eye, so the left eye image goes black and the right eye glass opens. With the 120Hz display, each eye gets 60 frames per second in an ideal scenario enabling 3D video at 60 fps.

The new ASUS G51J3D notebook should begin selling in early December.
