ATI HD 5970 "Hemlock" Graphics Card Priced

There has long been rumors about the monster in ATi’s new HD5xxx Evergreen series of graphic cards, but we caught wind that the HD5970 (early speculated to be named HD5870x2) will pack two of ATi’s Radeon HD5870 “Cypress” GPUs on one PCB, making for a true performance champion that should be launching tomorrow.
Although the new ATI HD 5970 “Hemlock” graphics card is yet to be launched, today we laid our eyes on some new pictures and pricing info that have leaked out as online retailer ZipZoomFly has listed the card for $599.99 on their website. Too expensive? This is not a surprising price point as the card is expected to be the fastest single card to ever hit the market.

ATi, though currently facing shortages for both of its current high-end cards, seems to have found its mark with the new HD5xxx series. The “Cypress” HD5870 and HD5850 cards released after months of rumors and were immediately sold out even with their slightly high prices. The 5870 has 1600 stream cores while the 5850 has 1440 usable cores for dedicated graphics processing. Hence why the new HD5890 will effectively double the number of cores from its younger brother and on top of these all, it will also pack 2GB of GDDR5 RAM.
For now NVIDIA has no comparable product, at least not before their Fermi GPUs launch in Q1 2010.
