ViewSonic have officially announced their new MovieBook PMP which they bill as being an ‘all-in-one entertainment content solution for HD videos, music, photos, ebooks and more’ and which, aside from sporting a 4.3” 720p HD capable high resolution TFT Active Matrix LCD display also offers PC and TV connectivity allowing you to view HD content via televisions and monitors whilst not out and about.

Built around a 4.3” 800 x 480 resolution display boasting 400:1 contrast ratio and 300 cd/m2 brightness, the ViewSonic MovieBook HD Portable Media Player, which measures in at 113 x 74.5 x 13.8mm and which, notably, is compatible with Windows based systems only (specifically 98/2000/SE/ME/XP/Vista), comes with 8GB of NAND Flash Memory which can be supplemented thanks to the inclusion of an onboard microSD card slot and comes with integrated stereo speakers offers 2x 0.2W output (though, of course, a headphone socket is also in evidence).
Compatible with a host of video, audio and photo file formats taking in AVI, RM/RMVB, FLV, MP4, MOV, PMP, MPG, VOD, DAT, H.264, H.263, MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, APE, OGG, JPEG, BMP, PNG and GIF the ViewSonic MovieBook offers a purported battery life of up to 12 hours (audio), 6 hours (video) or 3 hours (HD video) whilst, whilst not spectacularly impressive is hardly lamentable when viewed alongside similarly specified PMPs.

“Today’s consumers have more gadgets than ever, most dedicated to performing a singular function,” said Jeff Volpe, vice president and general manager of ViewSonic North America, who introduced the ViewSonic MovieBook. “Our new MovieBook is designed to combine many of these individual devices into one, making digital content portable and user friendly.”
