Motorola Droid to get On-the-Air Update on December 11 [Leaked Docs Show that Verizon's Droid Comes Back for an Upgrade]

Most of you already know that Verizon’s flagship handset and probably this year’s most hyped and rumored smartphone, the Motorola Droid, has managed to sell some 100,000 units in the first weekend of availability. What you may not know is that Big Red are not yet partying, but rather works on improving the device with a set of leaked documents with the company’s logo on them, mentioning an over-the-air upgrade for the Droid on December 11.

The hottest Android phone available to date, Motorola Droid is supposedly lacking nesting folders in Exchange Active Sync e-mail, a notification icon for when you send an e-mail and a lock-up for when you edit large invite lists. If our sources are true, the OTA upgrade is also going to bring calendar appointments via e-mail, will allow to transfer contacts over Bluetooth and will also solve what’s been considered an intermittent problem with the camera’s ability to automatically focus.

The five pages document details all the issues and also mentions January 22nd as a second date for some of the fixes, so if you had any issues with your Motorola Droid, don’t worry, Big Red is working on it — which we have to agree it’s fast!

The Motorola droid has another serious problem in that former Alltel customers in Florida (and perhaps elsewhere) who have been switched to a Verizon plan for the droid cannot access GPS satellites, therefore rendering Google Maps positioning inaccurate and unusable.
