Nokia Recalls 14 Million Chargers [Nokia Charger Exchange Program Officially Announced]

Nokia has officially warned its customers that certain chargers made by a third-party supplier could be dangerous for you, and the company is currently recalling no less than 14 million units. They will be replaced by new chargers and you should definitely return yours and get a free new one that should be a lot safer. After all, I’m sure you wouldn’t want to go through any electric shocks in the near future, would you?

The chargers have been made by Huizhou BYD Electronic between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009 (models AC-3U and AC-3E) and between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009 (model AC-4U.)

So what’s the problem with the chargers you ask? Well, as Nokia puts it, you could end up experiencing some unwanted electric shocks as the plastic covers of some of the affected chargers might come loose and separate making the internal components dangerous to touch:

The plastic covers of the affected chargers could come loose and separate, exposing the charger’s internal components and potentially posing an electrical shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket.

No incidents have been reported so far and hopefully we won’t hear such unpleasant news anytime soon. Nokia will surely be doing everything in its power to replace the faulty chargers. The official press release doesn’t say how many chargers Nokia is talking about but according to Reuters, some 14 million units might be affected. The number is not that surprising considering that Nokia is still the number one carrier when it comes to worldwide market share. Despite not having a phone capable to fight against some of the hottest handsets out there, the Finnish manufacturer is still selling plenty of phones all over the world. 14 million is an impressive number so you’d better check if your recently purchased Nokia phone comes with one of the charger models mentioned above. In case it needs to be replaced then go ahead and do it. Electric shocks aren’t pleasant at all!
