Verizon had earlier confirmed that they will support tethering on their uber-hyped Motorola Droid, what they failed to announce was how much it would cost. But since we can’t settle until we know everything, we managed to find that Big Red will be charging double the normal data rates if you want to connect your Droid to your laptop/PC and use the high-speed 3G internet connection.
AT&T recently made news when they apparently blocked tethering for a Blackberry user on their network who had been using tethering for years, but it looks like Verizon will play the good guy in here and will offer the Mobile Broadband Connect service (which is actually available for most of their 3G smartphones such as the Droid or the new BlackBerry Storm 2) for $30 for the “Unlimited” plan.
However, in some unknown language only used and understood by Verizon (oh, and other service providers, too) “Unlimited” means a specific amount of bandwidth, in this case, 5GB — where extra usage will be charged at 5 cents per megabyte. More to it, all these came on top of the existing dataplan used by the subscriber on the phone.
Verizon also offers a separate Mobile Broadband service for laptop users via a USB or PC card allowing 250MB of data for $40 per month with 10 cents per additional megabyte.
But if you’re a Droid user and have the “green”, you’ll be using tethering sometime in 2010 when the service to be activated.

I was told by the Verizon Rep that sold me my phone that tethering (When it exists) Will be free. He said that in the Deal that Verizon worked with Google, the phone was to be 100% Open source. Meaning they can’t charge for Navigation, VCAST videos and Tethering.
