The Germans from Porsche are once again proving their sporting prowess with the new 2010 Porsche Boxster Spyder. A supercar meant as the “purist form of the Porsche sports car – light, powerful, consistently open, and very efficient”, the new new mid-engined roadster will join the Boxster and Boxster S next month when it’s going to be introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Speaking of power this little beast hides a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine mated to a Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. Power is up by 10hp compared to the Boxster S to a good 320hp, allowing the Boxster Spyder to spring to 60mph in just 4.6 seconds, on its way to a max speed of 166mph (with the roof open). But other than being dread fast thanks to its body work that makes it 176 pounds lighter, the 2010 Boxster Spyder comes with a lowered the center of gravity and an all-new sports suspension.
Design wise, there are a unique soft top, extra-low side windows, modified front and rear bumpers, two rear deck lid bulges “stollen” from the Carrera GT, minimalist 10-spoke alloy wheels and revised air intakes.
The new 2010 Porsche Boxster Spyder will go on sale in February 2010 starting from €53,100 (in the Euro countries).
