Samsung Moment Gets Official From Sprint

While the Droid is still the talk of the town, especially since it’s going to be available in Europe in GSM version, Sprint has quietly made the Samsung Moment available. After the HTC Hero, the Moment is Sprint’s second Android phone and you’ll be able to find it from Sprint’s channels already.
The phone will be available for $179.99 after $200 instant savings and a $100 mail-in rebate. The offer is valid as long as you activate a new 2-year contract with Sprint of course.
The Moment is definitely a good phone capable to offer all the Android experience you’re looking for. And today we have all the officially official specs for you neatly displayed on Sprint’s official website. Here’s what you can expect from Samsung’s Moment:
- 3.2-inch AMOLED Touchscreen
- Slide-out QWERTY keyboard
- 3G support
- 3-megapixel camera with digital zoom and video recording
- 800 MHz processor
- GPS
- 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth Wireless
- Memory card slot; support for up to 32GB
- Voice activated dialing
- 1440 mAh Battery
- Optical trackpad
- Web browsing
- Android Market support
- Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail and YouTube support
- 3.5mm headset jack
The Moment will ship with Android 1.5 on board but there’s no reason for it not to receive Android 2.0 when the new OS becomes available. Unfortunately at this time we have no idea when Android 2.0 will be available for the Moment. Undoubtedly the handset won’t be locked to Android 1.5. It would be a huge mistake for Sprint to do such a thing. After all the carrier does want to have a fighting chance against Verizon’s Droid so the Moment should get the Éclair in the near future.
So what do you say folks? Are you ready for the next Android phone from Sprint? Will you chose the Moment instead of the Hero? Or will you rather move to Verizon and get one of those brand new Droids this Friday?

I purchased the first Moment sold yesterday at my local Sprint store. I love it so far, and I’m having a blast shopping in the Android Market! The majority of apps are free and I can’t wait for the tech advancenments with Android phones in the future. Forget the iPhone! I think I’ve found a more than comparable handset in the Moment!!!
