Verizon to Launch BlackBerry Curve2 or HTC Passion on Black Friday? [Verizon Plans Smartphone Galore for End of 2009: HTC Passion / Dragon, Motorola Calgary 2, BlackBerry Curve2 & Others]

If anyone from AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile USA is reading this then they’d better sit down and start brainstorming on a solution that will prevent Verizon Wireless from stealing the spotlights in the following months.

Why, you ask? Well it looks like Big Red is planning to roll out a lot more smartphones by the end of 2009. Instead of cashing in on the Droid and the Storm 2, Verizon will launch other impressive smartphones in the following months. Don’t hurry to a Verizon store this Friday! Maybe the Motorola Droid is not the phone you want to purchase.

According to some Boy Genius’ inside sources, Verizon is going to unveil more Android and BlackBerry smartphones in the following weeks. Although nothing is confirmed officially yet, the carrier wants to launch the BlackBerry Curve2 or the HTC Passion / Dragon on Black Friday. The one that gets ready first will probably get all the attention on Black Friday. Other hot phones include the Calgary, which is another Motorola Android phone and a couple of other BlackBerry handsets. On top of all these new handsets Verizon is also planning to launch a few surprise devices that we don’t know about. The end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010 will be pretty interesting for U.S. customers. What about the HTC HD2? Is Verizon considering getting a hot Windows Mobile 6.5 phone too?

So what are the other carriers doing? T-Mobile’s Project Black / Dark hasn’t been fully revealed, has it? AT&T has the iPhone but it should definitely consider getting some other smartphones. The exclusivity agreement between Apple and AT&T will come to an end at some point. We suggest Android phones since AT&T is the only one of the big four that doesn’t have Android in its lineup. Sprint on the other hand has big plans too and we have showed you what this carrier is going to launch next year. With phones like the Palm Pre and Pixi, the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment, Sprint could put up a fight. But will that suffice? What do you say guys and gals, what carrier sounds more interesting to you, especially at this time of the year?

Unless Sprint gets the HD2 I would consider them a non player. Just like Sprint to bring a knife to a gunfight.

…..Yeah it’s called the HTC Imagio…Came out 2-3 weeks ago.

No one is going to steal the spot light from Verizon in end of Q3 and beginning of Q4. We have lots of hot phones coming out LG Chocolate Touch, Blackberry Curve 2, Blackberry 8530, HTC Droid Eris, Motorola Droid, Samsung Omnia 2 (Windows 6.5), Motorola Calgary, and another Android phone that is being kept a secret.

Heres what I see happening short and long term. While I feel Verizon has had a bad business model in the past in not only overcharging people for their plans and phones but offering lousy ones at that usually. Not to mention they’re the infamous device killer controlling how you also USE a device.
That being said looks like they’ve turned over a new leaf with these Android devices. They are completely open with wifi and full android usability. Supposedly you could buy one unlocked and bring it to them and use it on their network too. With this move and supposedly the slated 13 devices to come out in the next 6 months it looks like Verizon is playing hard ball and looking to beat T-Mobile and Sprint to dust. AT&T is the only company out there large enough to combat not to mention they have the nice ace in the pocket iphone but that may not last if the exclusivity deal finally ends and iphone becomes available on Verizon. So now that VZ is finally becoming a decent carrier and not quite as bad I don’t think Sprint or T-Mobile have the coverage, products, or market share to really put a fight. If VZ’s plans go according to plan I say tmob and sprint are dead in two years. AT&T should last longer but its hard to say how long. For AT&T to live longer than five years from now they would have to jump on the 4G ETL networking first. Supposedly Verizon is already prepping and getting ready and if they hit the ground running with 4G service, which will be the next global standard, they will massacre the market and ultimately eliminate free market on the cellular market. I see the government stepping in and regulating things before that happens to ensure theres competition and free market opportunity.
This is my slightly pessimistic but I feel very plausible timeline. So I am watching these mobile battles closely for the next few years.

An interesting take on developments there, Phil – and I dare say more than likely spot on the money too. We’ll be watching things as much as you are, of course.

[...] until after black Friday. He said Verizon has plans to launch another Android phone. Doing a little digging, it looks like it could be the HTC Dragon (renamed Passion). __________________ [...]
