You can’t ignore the signs, can you? Netflix movies have only been available to Xbox 360 consoles for a while now but everybody hopped that will change. Despite the economy, Netflix has had a great year and the company is looking to expand as much as possible.
All sorts of gadgets have been granted Netflix capabilities and the naturally Sony’s PlayStation 3 was one of them. The PS3 will be able to stream movies starting this November and that’s great news for everyone owning a console from Sony. But Netflix will not stop there. The service will also be available to Wii lovers really soon.
There are a lot of Wii consoles resting in thousands of American households so it’s only understandable for Netflix to tempt them with streaming support. According to rumors Netflix has been working on the Wii and video streaming support is on its way. Their service could be available by the end of the year although some people say that Netflix might want to hold back until early next year with the launch. It looks like we’re going to see a Wii HD emerge next year and that’s what Nintendo could be waiting for.
There are no details at this point regarding the rumored Wii HD. It might just be the device we talked about here a while ago, the Wii 2. If you can remember, the Wii 2 was said to be a cheaper and lighter version of the current Wii. The Wii 2 will keep most of the features found in the original console, but we definitely see it coming with HD capabilities.
Neither Nintendo nor Netflix have commented about the whole Netflix on Wii situation but I guess that nobody really expects the Wii to lack Netflix support in the near future. After all everyone else in the gaming business will be able to stream Netflix movies! Should we expect our Wii to have Netflix streaming capabilities by Christmas?
