HTC Not to Make Android Version of HD2?

HTC to Focus on Windows Mobile Phones Instead

Whether you like Windows Mobile or not, you simply can’t overlook that HTC HD2 smartphone! It’s basically a work of art and it’s definitely the best HTC phone launched so far. Unfortunately for the HD2, people would rather see it wearing Android clothes, especially now that Motorola has launched a killer phone like the Droid.

And while we thought that the rumored HTC Dragon will actually be an HD smartphone running Google OS that might not be the case at all. It looks like HTC wants to focus on Windows Mobile phones more. According to Peter Chou, HTC’s chief executive and president, the company will not dump Windows Mobile anytime soon. In fact HTC happens to sell a lot of Windows Mobile phones and although that hasn’t been the most profitable endeavor in the world lately, HTC won’t bail out on its traditional partner.

Mr. Chou said, in an interview with Forbes, that “We’re working hard on these kinds of products to get excitement about Windows Mobile.” He was referring of course to the HTC HD2. So, should we expect more Windows Mobile smartphones similar to the HD2? That’s exactly what might happen in the near future.

Mr. Chou also said that “technically we could make the HD2 an Android phone,” but HTC will rather “take care of Windows Mobile.” The Dragon is not completely out of the question and we can still dream about it, but we can also speculate that it won’t be that similar to the HD2.

As for HTC’s future plans, they include Android and Windows Mobile phones only. HTC won’t make any other Android-based gadget like eBook readers or netbooks and the company will do less customization for its carriers. Mr Chou said that “in the Past, we perhaps made too many phone models. Now we’re putting more effort into seeing how we can sell more volume per model.”

The general impression is that HTC is not going to make an Android-based HD2 smartphone in the near future but it can also be a bluff. After all, HTC can’t really say that its future Android phones won’t use any of the technology found in the HD2. It’s decision time again! What will it be? HTC HD2 or Motorola Droid?
