Google Voice

Available in Beta for some time now, Google Voice is a free Internet based phone forwarding service by Google that promises to give you more control over your communications. If up until today only new “Google numbers” were allowed to link all your phones, Mountain View came forward today and said that a lite version of Google Voice is now available and that it allows users to keep their existing number.

Previously known as GrandCentral, the Google Voice service makes voicemail as easy as email, allows for free US long distance, low rates on international calls. More to it, there are many calling features like transcripts, call blocking, call screening, conference calling or SMS that you can take advantage off. Oh and did we mention that you can come up with custom voice mail greetings for every number that calls you?

However, for those willing to trade some of the Google voicemail functionality, the new Google Voice Lite there’s now the option to register the number you’ve been using ever since.

Like it? Well, Google Voice is an invite-only service so you’ll have to request an invite or ask a friend with a Google Voice account to send you an invitation — then you’ll be able to register with either your existing number or the Google number for additional features.

Thanks for the info. I remember reading about Google Voice quite a while back but it wasn’t available yet. I think this could really be helpful to us since we run a home based business. I’ll check it out. :)
