
Following on form having just released their new Kindles, and specifically their Kindle International, Amazon have now confirmed that their Kindle for PC application, which will allow end users to gain access to over 360,000 eBooks which can be read directly via their PC, is set to become available as of next month as a free download.
Billed as being ‘the perfect companion application for folks who own a Kindle or Kindle DX’ as well as being very obviously suited for those who don’t wish to splash out for a Kindle but would like access to the eBooks offered by Amazon’s Kindle Store, the newly unveiled Kindle for PC application comes complete with Amazon’s Whispersync technology, serving to automatically saves and synchronizes bookmarks and last page read across devices. Additionally, Amazon have confirmed that a later update to the application for Windows 7 users will also see the new OS’s touch technology catered for allowing, for example, pages to be turned with just a flick of the finger.
According to Amazon’s press patter, here’s what the Kindle for PC application is set to bring to the table in terms of features:
- Purchase, download, and read hundreds of thousands of books available in the
- Kindle Store
- Access their entire library of previously purchased Kindle books stored on
- Amazon`s servers for free
- Choose from over 10 different font sizes and adjust words per line
- Add and automatically synchronize bookmarks and last page read
- View notes and highlights marked on Kindle and Kindle DX
- Zoom in and out of text with a pinch of the fingers (Windows 7 users only)
- Turn pages with a finger swipe (Windows 7verison)
There’s no actual date of release concerning the free Amazon Kindle for PC application at this juncture, though Amazon have confirmed it’ll become available sometime next month with interested parties being invited to drop their mail addresses for updates via the official Kindle for PC page.
