Regular TFTS readers should know that Dell have been on a launching spree this week announcing a new AIO PC, their first Android smartphone, a new MID and a multitouch monitor. What you guys may not know is that Dell’s been working on their first rugged tablet PC — the Dell Latitude XT2 XFR, which has been revealed in an FCC filing by Novatel.
There are models in Dell’s XFR badged rugged laptops collection, but the Dell Latitude XT2 XFR is the first tablet to allow for use outdoors or in more dangerous workplaces. It comes with thick rubber bumpers on its sides and a thicker monitor hinge, given the body some extra shock-absorbing protection. On top of that there are also rubber protected ports that will keep dust and water away from getting inside.
Although there’s not much concerning specs, Novatel refers to it as a “convertable Tablet PC with 850/1900 CDMA/EVDO/GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSPA WWAN radio” which means that there’s plenty on the connectivity front. On top of that, we can easily identify a fingerprint reader and a trackpad that you can use only when in tablet mode.
The new Dell Latitude XT2 XFR Rugged Tablet PC seems to be running Windows Vista Ultimate, but when officially introduced to the market we’d expect it to come bundled with Windows 7 and to pack a multitouch display. That’d be neat, isn’t it?
