BlackBerry Storm 9530 Gets Storm2 Functionality Via Firmware Update [Original BlackBerry Storm With Better Scrolling & Browsing]

BlackBerry Storm 9530 Verizon

RIM’s new BlackBerry Storm2 9550 is meant to replace the original BlackBerry Storm and its crappy functions that led so many to say that it’s a failure even though it sold millions of models. But wait, there’s light at the end of the tunnel for BlackBerry Storm 9530 users, as Big Red is rumored to be working on a firmware upgrade that will bring the same features from the Storm2 into the old model.

As weird as it may sound, it looks like the new Storm2 features could be added to the 9530 with a simple software program rather than hardware upgrades. An unnamed Verizon representative has told our friends from PhoneArena that the software will allow the same flick scrolling, tabbed browsing and threaded texting.

What it won’t get you is the Storm2 SurePress typing system or Wi-Fi connectivity, which has become standard on most smartphones these days.

Nothing official regarding if or when the upgrade is going to roll out, but I guess we’ll have to wait for the Storm2 to release before we get to download it.
