As you may, or may not, be aware, netbooks running Microsoft’s XP OS had to adhere to a number of particular limits in terms of specifications – such as a 1GB RAM limit, a HDD no larger than 160GB capacity and a display size less than 12.1” – but, thanks to MS not placing any such stipulations relating to the use of the new Windows 7 OS, manufacturers can at last break free of these wholly restrictive shackles and, with that in mind, HP look set to offer the Windows 7 powered version of their HP Mini 311 netbook with a somewhat (upwardly) revised feature set.
Whilst there’s no official word from HP at this juncture – these details were obtained via the HP Mini 311’s maintenance guide (links to PDF download) – it appears that the new Windows 7 powered HP Mini 311 netbook will offer up a non-LE version of the Nvidia ION chipset (ie., the full deal), as well as between 2GB-3GB RAM and, in terms of storage, a choice of 250GB or 320GB 5400rpm HDDs or, if you want to go the SSD route, an 80GB SSD.
Additionally, rather than offer just the starter edition of Windows 7 reports also suggest that the refreshed HP Mini 311 netbook will be offered with a choice of Windows 7 Starter, Premium and Professional operating systems.
We expect an announcement to prove forthcoming from HP shortly and will follow up with their officially confirmed specifications, though there’s no reason to believe that they’ll differ from those provided above.
